The Project
Ecological Research for Improved Population Management and Conservation
Some of our themes
Diet
Diet preferences, seasonal palatability, foraging cues and decisions.
Spatial
Habitat use, home range establishment, social and temporal movements.
Competition
Resource partitioning with coexisting browsers and mixed-feeders.
Parasites
Individual and population parasite load, transmission and impact.
Dehorning
Investigating the impact of dehorning on black rhino ecology.
Tracking
Developing and trialling new tracking devices adapted to rhino morphology.
Fieldwork
Monitoring black rhino, collecting various data such as spatial, dung samples, feeding choice and more.
Lab work
GIS, sample preparation for analysis, plant C/N and metabolomics, GC-MS and DNA extraction and metabarcoding.
Rhino Pods
In partnership with the IICT team of the HEIG-VD, we’re developing new tracking devices in the form of horn pods.
Let’s work together
